From a garage in Dinteloord
to a global standard
Every great innovation starts with a problem worth solving. Here is how the Procona journey unfolded.
The invention that changed floriculture
Jan de Pagter founds Pagter in Dinteloord, Netherlands. He invents the Procona — Producer to Consumer in Aqua — the first reusable transport container for cut flowers, keeping stems in water from farm to shelf. Together with his wife Lia and daughter Corina, Jan makes Procona a worldwide success.
The flagship is born
Procona Valencia introduced — the flagship model that becomes the industry standard for cut flower transport packaging.
Outgrowing the first home
The Dinteloord building becomes too small to keep up with demand. Pagter moves to a larger, purpose-built facility in Roosendaal to accommodate growing production and global distribution needs.
Amsterdam joins the range
Procona Amsterdam launched — a reinforced version designed for nursery and auction logistics, built to handle the demanding environments of Dutch flower auctions.
Crossing the Atlantic
Pagter Innovations Inc (USA) established in Pennsylvania, expanding operations to North America. The Procona system begins its journey into one of the world's largest floral markets.
Conquering British retail
Procona London introduced — a retail-ready format with cardboard collar, specially designed for the British retail market. The first major British retail chain adopts the Procona system, and more quickly follow.
New leadership, continued growth
Jan de Pagter steps down as director. New leadership drives further growth and modernization while staying true to the founding vision of quality, sustainability, and innovation.
Entering the retail segment
Procona Florida launched — a compact format for supermarkets and short stems. Designed for mass-market channels, it brings the water-transport advantage to everyday consumers.
Porto — a new category
Procona Porto launched — consumer-facing flower packaging. Water-retaining packaging for sending flowers in dry boxes, a breakthrough innovation that wins multiple industry awards.
From transport to point-of-sale
Display systems (Madeira, Pico, Bali) introduced for retail environments. Pagter now covers both transport and point-of-sale presentation, offering a complete solution from grower to retail floor.
A sustainable new home
Growth makes Roosendaal too small. Pagter, now a globally recognized supplier, moves to a sustainable, gas-free building in Oud Gastel — a facility that reflects the company's deep commitment to environmental responsibility.
